Every Independent Artist and Record Label Has One Major
Concern…..

How To Get Airplay on the Radio and Your Video Played ?

These are the facts and the myths of this Industry:

Question: How come you can’t get your song played on your local radio station, if the song fits their format and sounds really great in comparison to everything else you hear on the radio ?

Fact: Commercial Radio is a business and not a community charity. They are there to create the perception to the listeners that they are for the community to bring in Advertisement Dollars to their business, not to make your music interest a priority. Most of the time when you hear the same major artist music time and time, it’s because they have the financial support to promote on a large scale and normally the public believes that if they see or hear these artist everywhere all of the time, they are worth listening to as oppose of any local artist who barely gets noticed within his or her hometown.

Myths: When a Music director or Program director tells you that they need to see some more activity from other stations or they need you to create a buzz on the record before they will consider your independent record for airplay is basically a lie most of the time.

Fact: A Music Director’s Job is to introduce new music to his or her Program Director for the interest of the song getting a chance for the public to hear. A new artist needs the opportunity to get heard so that the public can decide if the record is worth the listening. Most of today’s radio programmers and directors just don’t have the belief in breaking music nor the power to do anything different because of job security.

Your Option: Make music that is relevant to who you relate to and is inspired by. If you create quality,it will take you places that your local radio station can’t. Don’t get stuck in trying to prove your record to people who normally don’t share your vision nor your talent. You can only create a fan base where someone appreciates your music. If those around you don’t see it, go somewhere we they do. You must invest time, money, and travel to get where you want to be until you get there. There is always someone that relates to where you are going, but you won’t know if you stay where people aren’t supporting your direction. Remember your talent will always out last someones job position, you really have the upper hand if you can change your thinking.

Question: How come you can’t get your video played on Big Networks?

Fact: Most videos you see on network tv are shot with budgets into the hundreds of thousands of dollars and look and perception is what makes advertisers spend money with these networks.Space is so limited, that everybody wants to be on television, but programming must choose what is supported by corporate dollars. That’s the bottomline.

Myths: When you submit your video to these video networks, they normally ask what kind of airplay you are getting to support their decision to play your video. Due to them having limited space, most of the videos aired receive major radio support and that it would be unfair to give that same opportunity to someone who isn’t getting any or little airplay from radio at all.

Fact: Video Networks run strickly in support of corporate control. They create little programs to misdirect the consumer into believing that they are always breaking new artist. These new artist are normally under the same companies that support the resources produced by these networks. A new artist as oppose of a new independent artist is totally different in the eyes of these networks. The public only sees new artist and normally not interested in what company is backing them.

Your Option: Make videos that are original that best describes your music. Something that is different will always gain attention, but it must make sense or create a vibe that gets the attention of those who watch it. Reach out to any network or internet outlet that will play your video. Being independent isn’t a curse, it is a opportunity to grow and become better on your terms and at the pace needed to develop what you have to offer as your individual art.

Key Point: This industry has it’s ways of destroying your confidence by manipulating the masses to believe that without radio and video, you don’t meet a certain qualification, whether it be big dollar individuals or big dollar companies, you don’t have a shot in making a success of yourself with the talents you have been blessed with. This is a money business first and foremost, but it can’t function without your participation. Most of every artist today wants to get a major record label deal, due to one reason, they believe those companies have the money to support them and their dreams. The key word is money. If this wasn’t a business about money, why would they feel they need these major companies. Normally most artist only know one thing and that is their art. This is why major companies have the opportunity to dictate your future only because you are not willing to learn and invest in yourself. So why should you take credit for what you won’t do or not interested in knowing. Life is a contribution, don’t let greed and envy destroy your dreams. Appreciate your art and let faith take you places that you can’t do on you own. Everyone has a destiny of greatness, just find yours and everything will come together better than what you expected.
